Very First Parent-Teacher Conference

Dear Bubby,

Today, Dada and I went to your very first parent-teacher conference.  I was a bit taken aback when I first saw the schedule to sign up for a time to meet with your teacher.  I mean seriously, you are 20 months old!  But secretly (or not), I was so excited for this.  I love hearing how you're doing at school and I love the fact that your school takes things so seriously to make time for this - even for toddlers.

We talked with Ms. Cheri and she said that you are blossoming so much right now.  You're using two word sentences (I go, I play, Dada car) and love to talk.  You jabber all day.  Now that you're almost the oldest in your class you like to act like you rule the roost.

You eat well (no surprise there) and play well.  You're beginning to test the teachers with limits and it was good to hear how they discipline and correct you so we can be consistent at home.  Although, it sounds like you save up most of your ornery-ness for Mama.  You do try to climb things at school and throw toys when you're excited or frustrated.  You also love to yell out the name of everything thing you see.  I feel like I'm always telling you to whisper or use your inside voice, but Ms. Cheri said they say things like "Owie, Luke, that hurts my ears".  So I'll try that for awhile since I despise the "inside voice" line.

You do well at nap-time but she said you tend to play for awhile before settling down.  You sit on your cot with your little play people (it's an older guy and a younger guy and you call them "Papa" and "Dada") until you want to sleep.  Ms. Cheri said she pats your back for a few minutes until you fall asleep.  Which prooooobably explains a little of your crazy "pat!pat!pat!" nonsense when I try to put you to bed now.

Ms. Cheri said you're right on target for your age.  You are learning so much - colors, shapes, letters.  You learn things at school that we didn't even know about!  She said you are very good at your shapes and we don't even work on that at home....oops.  I think we need to read your daily papers a little bit better.  You love to sing songs and act out the words and you're also very good at playing pretend.  I've noticed you feeding Buzz and making chewing noises (it cracks me up) and they say you also practice dressing and playing with babies at school.  I've noticed you pointing out babies a lot lately so it makes me that much more excited to be able to give you a baby brother or sister someday soon.

All of the teachers say how much they enjoy you.  When I pick you up every day there's always a story about how sweet you were that day - either by giving kisses to your teachers and friends or flirting with Ms. Flora (you already know the pretty girls) - they always say that you are so fun and happy each day.  I know you're having fun because you never want to leave!

You make me very proud, Bubby.  I'm so happy to be your Mama.  You're growing up so fast, in just a few more months we'll be talking about transitioning you to the "Two's" room at school.  Potty training, big-boy cups and lots more new things I'm sure.  And before we know it, we'll blink and you'll be graduating from high school.

Our sweet boy.  We love you.
