Happy 21 months! Amazing that yet another month has flown by and I've had very few (if any?) updates. And when I say it has "flown by" I really mean it dragged on like it would never end, full of sickness, antibiotics, steroids, nebulizers, repeat. Our poor kiddo; you've been sidelined pretty much since December. I'll start to sound like a broken record before long, but suffice it to say you brought us to a new level with a temp of 106 in the middle of the night accompanied by lots of other yucky stuff. As of Friday, you got a referral to an ENT for a look in those sweet little ears of yours to maybe have tubes.
Thankfully you're acting so much better overall and I hope your sleeping is the next to fall into line. You're super good about going to bed most nights - "ssshhhhh....nigh nigh" to me at night before I tuck you in - but starting around 11 or 12, you begin to wake. Sometimes we find you laying on the floor sleeping or sometimes you stand at your door and cry. Usually it's a quick drink of water and you're back in bed. But the 4:30/5:00 am wake up is the hardest. You would be up for the day if we let you, so we've been bringing you into bed with us for a bottle of milk and usually snuggles until you fall back asleep. This works for me; maybe a little less for Dada. I agree with him, we don't want to make this a habit. But I love that you want to snuggle me and sometimes crawl on top of me to get comfortable and fall asleep. It will stop soon enough, but for now until I get enough courage to do the hard thing and make you stay in your room, I'll cherish the mornings that I get to hug and love you next to me.
Some of my current favorites about you:
You're talking like crazy! The best is that between your garbled mumbo jumbo, there are actual words in there now. You're getting so good at putting words together that it sometimes take me by surprise when you say something.
About 80% of the time, you say "thank you" completely unprompted and at the right time. I think I love this the most. We still need to work on saying "please" more.
You are such a typical toddler with your meltdowns....luckily we can stand there and laugh most of the time, but sometimes it's not so funny. :-) You literally melt down to the ground and kick, flail and cry like we've just taken away everything you love.
Speaking of love, you still love your "lovey". Funny thing, you call it "aah - eee". You can't quite get the "l" sound yet. Plain as day though, we know what aah-eee is and you call out for it every time we change your diaper or get ready for bed.
We've found you sleeping on the floor in your bedroom a few times...sometimes you won't even make a peep and we just happen to see you (or not see you) on the monitor.
You love school so much that we have to fight you almost every day to leave. Seriously. I am not ashamed to say I resort to bribery on most days.
I love how you say "Okay!" or "mmm hmmm" when we ask you questions. You are a perfect mimic which could get scary here pretty soon. Mama better watch her driving language. Or maybe other drivers should start paying attention!
You tell us "love you". Ok, so maybe THIS is my favorite thing you do right now...it's the best followed by a kiss and hug.
I'm reminded today of how lucky we are to have a strong, thriving little boy. Babies are such hard things to figure out and I feel so lucky that our first days, months and even year with you were relatively uneventful, yet full of little baby trials and tribulations. I cherish you every single day and vow not to take for granted how lucky we are to enjoy you - good days, bad nights and all.
A few pictures from the last month.... Happy 21 months big boy. Only 3 more months until you're TWO (cue the sad mama face)!
