My Cup Runneth Over

Have you ever seen the movie "Hope Floats"? It's one of those movies I could watch every day and never get tired of. There's a line in there...."my cup runneth over"... The little girl in the movie says this about how loved she feels.

The only way I can describe my weekend is "my cup runneth over".

We went to a great movie on Friday night (Away We Go...if you haven't seen it, DO! It is a really sweet unconventional love story). Afterwards, we started walking....just walking and talking....looking for a place to eat dinner. The next thing we know we've walked probably close to 2 miles to Old Town (a little neighborhood on the north side of downtown with lots of restaurants). It was a gorgeous night and we were in no hurry.
(I'll pepper this post with things I love about Mike instead of saving them to the end.)

I love Mike because instead of taking a cab or driving, he likes to walk. It doesn't matter how far. And I love that when we walk he tries to embarrass me by clucking like a chicken or making monkey noises as people walk by. He is successful in embarrassing me almost every time, but not without both of us cracking up.

We found a restaurant and had some tapas and sangria and went home.

On Saturday we woke up and I headed straight to the beach by 9 am. Mike finished up some work and joined me about 11:30. I am the happiest in the sun and near the water - so this day was perfect. We had lunch on the rooftop bar at the beach (picture below) and then went home for an afternoon nap. I love Mike because even though he loves the sun and water as much as I do, he gets bored...but he sat with me, not doing anything, while I soaked in the sun. And he didn't ask to leave or do some "activity" the entire time. Only when I stood up and said, "OK, I think I'm ready" did he say "good, let's go!". He just relaxed and let me have my day in the sun.

After our nap we had some dinner, showered and went to hear my friend Phil play in a band in Wrigleyville. It was fun, but we both recognize that we're not "kids" anymore! There were annoying drunk people everywhere and it was LOUD.

While we were watching Phil play, some big annoying drunk guy stood right in front of me so I couldn't see. I love Mike because he got up and told the guy to "take a seat or we're going to stand in front of you". The very big man looked at Mike and promptly sat down so I could see.
When we got home after 1:00 am, we got ready for bed. Then I hear something coming from the living room.... Mike hooked up his iPod to the stereo and he's playing the Jerkey Boys. If you don't know who the Jerkey Boys are, you might not have been a pre-teen in the 80's. If I was technically savvy, I might post a link to a Jerkey Boys track here, but I'm not. So you'll have to Google "Sol's Glasses" from the Jerkey Boys to see what I mean. It is hilarious and for as long as I've known Mike he's quoted this "song" (or whatever you call it). I love Mike because although we get annoyed with young drunk people at bars now that we're "older and wiser" we can still go home and laugh like idiots to the stupid Jerkey Boys at 1:00 am.
On Sunday we woke up and had some coffee and breakfast and got ready for our friends to come over to our house with their THREE kidlets (as they lovingly call them). Everyone had a good time but little Miss Adeline had the best time. She LOVED "Uncle Mike". She jumped on him, tickled him, gave him wet willies, followed him around...just like every other little one I've seen around Mike. How did I get so lucky to find someone who loves kidlets as much as they love him? He is so good with them and I can't WAIT to see what a great dad he will be.

I had the best weekend - my cup truly runneth over thanks to the love of my life.

  2. I LOVE Hope Floats - and I watch it every chance I get. It breaks my heart and then sews it back up again with hope. ~Lori
