Bubbles Academy and a New Video

On Saturday we ventured out to a place called Bubbles Academy.  I've been looking at their classes online and think I'm going to enroll us in a music class for "crawlers" on Wednesdays.  Since swimming lessons are over, I was hoping to do another fun thing with Luke on my day off during the week.  Before jumping in to the class, I wanted to check the place out.

Bubbles has "Open Play" every day from 1-5. I thought for sure Mike would say it was a silly idea or that Luke isn't old enough but he humored me anyway.  :-)  After Luke's nap we went, and to our mutual surprise, it was really fun!

The only real downer was that within about 30 seconds of walking in the door, I saw a John Deere push lawn mower that I thought Luke would love.  We pulled it over, he took a few steps and the handle collapsed.  And Luke collapsed right along with it - on his face.  Poor thing - he had the silent cry, I started crying, and Mike had to talk me into staying (I'm glad he did).  Bubba was fine - except for only a couple of marks that are still showing up a day later.  I tell you what, I think we have a pretty tough boy.

Before long, Luke was off playing.  First, he had to get a good look at the gashes on his face in the full length mirror. Luckily, the iPhone camera isn't the greatest so you can't see the marks!

After the mirror (which he could do at home!) we got him to check out the tent and tunnel.  I totally thought he'd be scared but I was so wrong!

After the tunnel, Luke wanted to hang out and watch some kids play.  He couldn't have cared less if we were even there!  Mike says he looked for me every once in awhile just to make sure I was there, but I'm not so sure.  It makes me happy that he's independent.  On the other hand, we might have to teach him about "Stranger Danger" because he crawled right up on the lap of some random dad and went right for his iPhone.  At first I thought he might have been confused and thought it was Mike, but I think he just really wanted that phone...

Here he is playing under a bridge...

And with some old-school hand-clappy thing that evidently every kid loves (see the little girl trying to reach for it too?).

You can also see what the room looks like...massive amounts of things to crawl over, on and under, along with toy kitchens, books, tents, balls, plastic food....kinda like baby heaven.

Here's Luke watching the "show"....they project a stream on the wall and it blends in with the mural...it was kinda cool and Luke liked it.

All in all, it was a pretty good experience.  We'd definitely go back - it's a good place to get out of the house during the winter.  I'm not betting on whether or not Luke gets sick now, but we'll see.  Supposedly everything is sanitized daily.  Not so sure it mattered after he put a toy cookie in his mouth after the kid with the runny nose and split lip.  Ack.

And now for the video...Luke took a couple of steps the other night.  He's so good at cruising along the furniture that as long as  he doesn't think you're trying to make him do it, he'll take an unassisted step or two every once in awhile.  He's not a "walker" just yet, but he's trying.  I got this on camera tonight, not too bad in my book (as you can tell from my commentary)!

  1. Looks fun. We are thinking of doing music on Saturdays there (or wiggle worms). Luke is so close to walking!

  2. Oh I LOVE how he tries to look so nonchalant while taking his little steps! And, yeah, ick about putting toys in his mouth but I think you're just building his immunity :) Thanks for Skyping! :)
