You might as well settle in now for this post, it's a lengthy one. Go grab a cup of hot cocoa and a blanket and snuggle in.
About 10 days ago (a week ago this past Saturday), we were hustling and bustling around our place to get ready for a baby shower for my dear friend Kelly. I was so happy to do it and spent endless hours on Etsy and Pinterest finding cutesy ways I could help celebrate this little baby coming into the world. By Saturday night, everything was pretty much done, just had to do some last minute preparations on Sunday morning before the big show. I woke up Sunday morning feeling like I got hit by a bus. It took me until almost 1:30 pm to get dressed. Kelly was to arrive at 2:30.
I'll spare you the rest of the details, but let's just sum it up by saying I have a wonderful husband who flitted around hanging decorations, dusting, cleaning up and taking care of our increasingly fussy (and soon to be super sick) boy that day. I barely remember much of the shower. I was so sick and really pissed that I wasn't able to enjoy the day that I had planned! I think Kelly and her friends had a good time though, and that's all that matters.
Here are the only pictures I have of all of my preparations - and it's only the cupcakes and favors (both in little baby food jars). There were oh-so-many fun little things that didn't get captured on film.
During the shower, Mike was in the basement with Luke because he was getting sick too. And sicker and sicker and sicker by the moment. As soon as everyone left, we gave him a bath and put him to bed. I also went to bed.
And once again, I have an amazing husband who, unknown to me until 7:00 am on Monday morning, was up virtually the entire night with Luke. He took him downstairs and they slept together as much as they could.
And sure enough, by that morning, Mike was getting sick. Fast forward a couple of bad days....we were all sickies and I took Luke to the doctor on Tuesday morning when he started having a horrible cough. He had croup and we stayed home the entire week with him.
Thankfully by Tuesday afternoon, his fever was gone and he was acting so much better, but his cough is still lingering.
On Friday, we had arranged to have a playdate with our good little buddy, Callan. It's been ages since we've seen him and our old nanny, Adelia. Luke was feeling much better despite his cough, so we decided to go ahead and trek into the city.
It was so good to see them and we just wished Callan's mama could have been there too. Next time for sure. I got some cute pictures of the boys playing together. And we went out for lunch with Adelia and I finally got a picture of her with Luke!
Awww, buddies.
I'm sure they weren't supposed to be playing on this but leave it to Luke to find the one non-toy thing in the place to climb on and ride like a caahhhhrrr.
Playing with Adelia. Luke warmed up to her really fast - he remembered her and gave her a hug.
Lunch....I had a few flashbacks of being in this same bar many times and many years ago....and I'll tell you it was dark and thumping in there with Black Eyed Peas or something of the sort back then. And I'm pretty sure I never imagined myself in that place with strollers asking for the kids menu!
He looks grumpy but he was saying "cheese".
Can this kid get any cuter?
On Saturday night, we went to a place called the All Aboard Cafe with Jason and Olivia. It's this cute diner where there are trains everywhere. A train even brings your food to you!
We knew Luke would love this place. Within 2 mins of walking in, Luke fell and hit his head really badly on a step. It was so bad Mike had to tell me to walk away because I was kind of freaking out. His head had a huge goose egg and was already bruising. It was horrible. He cried for a bit but then stopped and wanted to get down and look at the trains.
I was pretty much wrecked for the rest of the night because I kept replaying his fall in my mind (I still do, honestly). I knew he had to hurt so much. We put ice on it for about an hour on and off, and he did pretty well.
We sat at the bar where the train brings your food to you...here's our food coming around.
Riding the train with Olivia. You can see his bruise but it really doesn't do it justice!
And FINALLY, we had a visit from our friends Audrey and Craig and their kiddos Adeline, Ethan and Matthew on Sunday morning. They were visiting from St. Louis and Craig's mom lives in Naperville so it worked perfectly for us to get together. We haven't seen Craig since our wedding and so this was the first time he got to meet Luke.
They were super cute together and Luke loved chasing after them. We got a few pictures at the end of the morning with Adeline and Ethan (that's Ethan right? Not Matthew? They have to be standing next to each other for me to tell them apart!). I love how Luke is totally cheesing it up in these!
And now we're trying to get back into the routine a bit....but only for a couple of days until we're off on a plane to visit Gramma, Grampa, AAA and M&m for the Hoyt Family Christmas!
(see, aren't you glad you snuggled in? I told you it was a long one. Stay tuned for Luke's 19 month birthday post which is only a little over a week late...).
Love the pictures. It looks like Callan's trying to lift up Luke in one of them.
ReplyDeleteSorry you guys were all sick for the shower... BOO. And that train place looks so fun for the kids -maybe one of our get togethers can be there :)
