Today is Maddie's third birthday! I can hardly believe it...it truly seems like yesterday when she was just a little burrito baby.
I remember the day she was born... I worked in Des Moines for the days leading up to Maddie's arrival so I could be close the second she was born. I rushed to Ames when Mom called...If my memory serves me, I think I was the first to see Maddie. Even before Mom and Dad.
I remember walking in to Amber's room. Amber was in the bathroom and Mike was there looking at Maddie in her bassinet. I took one look at her and started crying. It was one of those 'take your breath away' moments. I still have it now, just typing this!
I have always been so worried that Maddie would forget me and wouldn't remember who I was when I came home. There was a time when she was definitely a mommy and daddy's girl (or even a gramma's girl). But there is no better feeling in the world than when you walk in the door and Maddie comes running for you and gives you a big body hug with her legs wrapped around you - especially when it's been a few months since you last saw her!
Happy Birthday, Maddie! I can't wait to come home this weekend so I can have another full body hug!
Miss you and love you lots!
Auntie Shelby
