Happy 7 Months!

Dear Luke,

I can't believe I'm writing this today - you are 7 months old!  I'm pretty sure I say that every single month, but it's true...where does the time go??

Today you took your first solo trip to Home Depot with Dad.  I was so happy and a *little* bit emotional about it...you're getting so big and now it's easy to tote you along and pop you in the cart.  It always makes me smile when I see a Dad and his little one shopping together at Home Depot.  I can presume the dad has taken the kiddo out of the house so the mama could get some rest (or if you're me, cleaning).  That's exactly what happened this morning and I just wasn't ready for it to happen so fast!

You are so much fun and get into EVERYTHING.  There are two real no-no's (so far) at home:  climbing up on the fireplace and crawling towards the stairs/front door.   You enjoy doing both more than anything else. It's like a game to you...we say "no no" and you look at us out of the corner of your eye and keep on going.

You have an uncanny knack at seeing everything you can't have...the "real" remote control (you have your own), baby monitor, phone, computer, iPad, lotion, the list goes on.  Everything you can't have, you see instantly and practically run for it.  If you're in our arms, you have the twisting move down so well that we have to make sure we don't drop you.

You pull yourself up on everything that will hold your weight and even things that won't.  You like to pull yourself up while holding a toy in your hand.  You act like you're really busy with this very important project which includes sitting down and standing up about 16 times in a row all the while holding your favorite toy in your hand and banging it on whatever you are pulling yourself up on.  You like to hoard toys...and you try to pick them all up at once.  This reminds us of your cousin Maci.  :-)

You like toys that make music and you even dance when they play!  It is so freaking cute to see you bounce up and down - I think your Dad and I could watch you do this endlessly.

You also are walking along the furniture.  It's very tentative, but you have figured out that you can move from one place to the next by putting your hands out and scooting along the couch or ottoman.  You also like to completely let go of whatever you've pulled yourself up on.  You actually have pretty good balance for a few seconds until you either a.) fall on your bottom (which may or may not end in tears) or b.) fall forward on your face (which almost always ends in tears).

The funniest new "trick" is that you shake your head "no".  It is hilarious because you have no idea what you're doing.  We can't figure out when or why you do it, but it is so funny.

You're still just eating breakfast and dinner but next week we're planning to add lunch (have fun Adelia).  Breakfast is usually oatmeal and a half a jar or so of fruit (not a big morning eater) but dinner can sometimes be two full jars of baby food (piggy).  We started giving you yogurt melts which you really like.  You also eat puffs...you can't quite get the pincer grip down yet.  You just put a bunch into your hand and rake it against your mouth hoping something goes in.  Practice makes perfect so we'll keep trying it.  You also started using a sippy cup.  You don't take a lot of water out of it, but you still like taking drinks every once in awhile.

You have a tooth popping through!  It started to show the Friday after Thanksgiving and it's still hasn't come all the way through but it's sharp.  I also think the other one is coming in too because you are gnawing on everything and anything.  Also drooling like crazy and have had some pretty explosive diapers (we've had new sheets on your bed for 3 straight days).

You have your first cold.  I have to say that we didn't do too bad if it has been 7 months before you got very sick.  You have an awful runny nose and we have to suction it a LOT.  It's not your favorite thing either.

I've been sick too and secretly it's been nice to be home this last week with you, even though we were both sickies.  It's back to Callan's and work on Monday, but I enjoyed my few extra days home with you.

You're still in swimming lessons, but we had to miss this week because of our colds.  You have two more left.  I have plans to take you to a music class after the new year.

You have been sleeping great.  Through the night most nights and a few nights you are up once.  But we can deal with that.  A few days you slept until 7 am but of course today you were babbling and ready to get up at 5:30.  We will work on the meaning of "weekends".

Napping for Adelia seems to be getting a little better but it is off and on for me at home.  Sometimes you'll sleep for longer than an hour - sometimes only 20 mins.  Can't quite get that figured out but we'll keep trying.

We love you so much.  It's hard to imagine loving you more, but each day my heart grows a little bit bigger and I know your dad's does too.

Happy 7 months Bubs - you make every day better than the last.

Love,
Mama

PS - sorry for the lack of pictures but it has been a task just to get this written.  I promise more pictures and videos to come soon.
