So many things have been happening over the last month it's hard to even narrow them down. I'll try to cut it down to some of my favorites....
Luke now spends most of his time climbing the furniture and trying to run and jump from piece to piece. We scold him and say "SIT!" and he'll instantly sink to his bottom and look at us with a face that can only be described as naughty. He waits about 2 seconds and then stands and does it again. It was cute and awesome at first, but now it's just frustrating because we can't turn our backs for a SECOND otherwise he'll be standing on top of something, ready to jump.
He does this with just about everything - he tries to climb and stand on any toy that will hold his weight (and some that won't). He tries to climb ME when he wants down. He definitely has ants in his pants.
Daddy has a habit of "running to Target" for something and coming back with lots of goodies for his little man. The last trip ended up with a tent in our living room! Luke looooves it and he'll go in there and play by himself. Mike also bought a big bag of balls (the kind you find at Chuck E Cheese) so those are in there, along with all of his stuffed animals. We hear him squealing and hugging them - so funny. He also likes to dive out the front door...
He finally started drinking whole milk. It was a hard transition and he spent a week or more not drinking anything out of a bottle (even the times when we caved and tried to give him formula again). One night though, he just did it - drank a full 6 oz bottle with milk in it. We're supposed to be giving up the bottle and Adelia is good about not giving him one during the day. But I love my snuggle time with Bubby and I still give him a bottle of milk when I rock him at bedtime. He won't drink milk out of a sippy cup so although Adelia tries to give it to him during the day, the only time he drinks milk is at night. (And maybe on the weekends because Mama likes to take advantage of 3 snuggles a day instead of just one). I figure one of these days he'll give in and drink milk during the day out of a sippy.
He is really starting to jabber - I tell him every day his tongue looks too big for his mouth! He just jabbers and talks away. Nothing makes sense but he really feels like he's telling us something. I can't wait for the day when he really starts using words. Here he is walking and talking before "school"....
He's starting to appreciate the wonderfulness that is SLEEP. I don't mean that he sleeps in late (oh how I wish he would) but he does tell us when he's ready for bed. He'll walk to the stairs around 6:30 most nights to tell us he's ready for his bath. And when I rock him before bed, he will usually drink his whole bottle without falling asleep. When he's finished he'll sit up and lean towards the crib. I kiss him and say I love you, and put him in his bed. He'll roll around with Eeyore for awhile or play with his blanket, but most nights he's sleeping in 10 minutes. I love that.
He is super shy around new people. He lays his head on our shoulder, turns his body into us and stuffs his hands in front of him. Personally, I love it when I'm holding him because he's like a cuddly little teddy bear. However, it doesn't last forever and usually he'll warm up pretty quickly and be off and running around in no time.
There are so many "new" things that he's doing it's hard to list them out - or even remember them all! We're having so much fun with him.
I find it hard to believe he's already more than a year old. I just want to hit the pause button - or maybe just the slow motion button - so I can make sure I remember and enjoy all of this time.
We're pretty lucky to have such a happy, healthy boy - one more month is in the books.
And a few more pictures for good measure...Adelia emailed these to me today. I sent some tortellini for Luke today, along with some green beans and fruit. I sent a lot of things because sometimes he's a stinker at home and won't eat pasta. Adelia said he ate everything, including all of the beans, fruit and some cheese to top it off. He also had two full waffles, cereal and fruit for breakfast...and probably a snack sometime this morning....this kid does not go hungry, that's for sure!
