17 Months

It's starting to feel a little bit like I only post once a month on Bubby's "birthday".  It's a crazy busy time at home and work for us so I'll just be thankful I took time to write down a few thoughts tonight in honor of our sweet boy turning 17 months old today.

We've been in the new house now for just over a month.  Seems like much longer and much shorter all at once.  We've settled in but are still doing lots of things to make it a "home".  And I'm very excited for my busy time at work to be over because I can't wait to go all out Fall and Halloween as soon as I can.

Luke is doing pretty well at daycare although we had a week recently that he stayed home sick with another ear infection.  Luckily, Gramma was visiting so it just allowed us to spend some more time together.

He still cries every day when we leave him, but this week has shown some mild improvement.  He still cries, but will actually go to one of the teachers now and he stops crying the second I'm out of sight.  Yes, I wait every single day.  Before this week, I waited for several minutes while he cried (both silently and loudly) and didn't want to have anything to do with anyone.  As soon as he stopped, I walked out and promptly had a good cry in the car on the way to work.  It was so hard to leave him.  But when I pick him up, he is always happy.  And even happier to see me.  I do have to say that my favorite part of my day is going to get him from school because he runs and hugs me so tightly that I can't even peel him off of me.

The teachers tell me that he's very talkative to them during the day.  They even told me today that he told some kids off for trying to take his "cooookie" (Cookie Monster) and Ernie that he brought to school today.  Note to self: do not leave home with any toys.

He also had two "incident reports" today.  I had 3 calls from his teachers.  First, the daredevil fell off the play gym in his room and bonked his head right where is staples were.  It is bruised again and he still has a goose egg, but of course he acts fine.  Later in the day, he was bitten by another kid on his arm.  I knew this would happen eventually, but it stinks.  I just hope he doesn't learn the same behavior and do it back.  Good thing they don't tell you who the other child is because I would have given some serious stink-eye today when I went to pick him up.

Here he is last week playing with another little boy.  I love that the teachers post pictures and reports to a website that we can view.

As far as other developments this month, it seems that he's learning new words all the time.  "Cookie" just came out the other morning and it was plain as day.  And he was actually referring to Cookie Monster, not food (unusual for him!).

He HATES sleeves and pants and now pulls on them while crying and says "off, off!".  This is not a good sign with winter coming.  Ahhh, a warm weather boy like his Mama.  He prefers t-shirts, shorts and no shoes.  The first thing we do when we come home from school is strip him down to a shirt and diaper!

He's getting better at napping at school (usually almost 2 hours) and he's pooped and ready for bed by 7.  Most days he's sleeping until 6:30 thankfully and we bring him into our bed for a few minutes of snuggle time and milk before we all get up for the day.  Also, our new King bed is absolutely delightful and plenty of room for all of us!

He is really funny with his play - he'll walk around with his knees bent like he's creeping....no idea where he got that.  Then he'll go to walking on his tippy toes.  He loves to run around the house in circles and is very good at testing us.  He gets on the furniture and jumps up and down while looking at us for disapproval.  When we get angry with him, now he turns his head and shuts his eyes (or flutters and rolls them up in his head) like we can't see him.  He loves playing with his little  people and cars on our dining room window sills.  It's the first thing he wants to do when he gets up for the day.

Here's a picture of it, although it's kinda dark (I was hiding in the kitchen).

Next week Mama and Dad are both gone for work so Bubby is taking a trip to stay with Gramma and Grampa for a couple of days.  I think they have a big week planned for him and I know he'll have a good time.  I just wish I could be there, too.

Here are a few pictures of our happy boy in the tub last night.  I love him so much and every single day my heart gets a little bit bigger.  There's nothing better than a big kiss from him and a tight squeeze around my neck.  Next month he'll be just 6 months away from being TWO.  I don't even want to think about it!

  1. Oh, I SO hope he learns to love his gramma! :) He'll have no choice... we're beyond excited to have him. I'll take whatever I can get of him and I promise to smooch him {almost} to death!
