Day 2

Luke - you've been such a good boy while Mama is away!  I am so pleasantly surprised by your excellent sleeping skills for your Dad - now if we can just keep it going when I get home.  Or maybe Dad will have to be the one to put you to bed from now on!?  Lord knows you've not slept well for me in a WHILE.

Yesterday, we got the funniest pictures from Adelia.  For the first time, I was able to see you as a little boy...a bit more grown up and already looking like you were caught with your hand in the cookie jar.

WHAT?!  He started it.
I love the fact that you and Callan are starting to notice each other.  He's your first little buddy and I think you guys are going to get into a bit of trouble together.  Adelia will definitely have her hands full with both of you moving all over the place.

Dad picked you up from Callan's and you were your usual tired, delirious, red-eyed self.

You had some playtime, then it was time for bath and bed.  I got to have dinner with a good friend last night but that meant that I couldn't FaceTime with you before bed.  Dad said you were a good boy and were in bed by 8 pm.

Then...for the 2nd night in a row, you didn't wake up until 3:00 am.  I am baffled by this...maybe it's coincidence, but I find it amazing that you sleep for your dad but you like to wake up lots when I'm home.  Anyway, it was harder to get you down last night when you woke up - you were up for 45 mins - but then slept until 6 am when Dad found you in your crib smiling and awake.

Your good mood didn't last long though...the next picture I got had the caption of "groucho".  You turned mad fast so Dad put you back in bed for a few minutes while getting dressed.  He came back and found you like this:

Ok, people, please don't call CPS on us...yes, that is Luke's crib and yes, those are pillows all around him.  But I SWEAR to you, he sleeps better with them (there's a previous post somewhere attesting to this) and we do move 1 of the side pillows out of the way before we go to bed....BTW, I plan to buy crib bumpers this weekend so as to avoid any of you thinking that we are unfit parents.  There.  Got that off my chest.
You had cried for a couple of minutes and fell right back to sleep.  Poor boy - you just weren't quite ready to wake up yet.  You slept for 20 mins and then you went to Callan's.  Dad is picking you up early this afternoon and then you're going to come to the airport to get me.

I am soooo excited to get home.  I've missed you more than these words can ever say.

Your dad said something to me once that I always have loved and think it's pretty true right about now.  He told me that he usually can go quite awhile without actively thinking about you during the day, but when it's time to pick you up, he gets in the car and feels like he's in highschool again, getting ready to pick up his prom date.  He's excited and can't get to you fast enough.

I feel the same way right now...I'm shifting in my seat, looking at the clock every 10 minutes and trying hard to get through the next few hours until I can see you.

We made it Bubs.  I made it.  And I am going to enjoy every moment until we have to go through this again for 2 weeks in October.  I will choose not to think about that right now.  I'm just going to be happy that these few days have gone by relatively quickly and I get to see my smiling happy boy in 3 short hours.

Love you Bubba.

  1. Glad you survived your trip. I'm sure Luke and Mike were happy to see you. Hope Luke sleeps well tonight.

Did you hear Chicago banned the sale of crib bumpers?!? You might have to go to the suburbs... The contraption of pillows in his crib is pretty intense!
