6 month check up

Luke's 6 month check up was yesterday and it went great!  His official stats:

Weight:  18 lbs, 7 oz (60%)
Length: 27 1/2 in (75 %)
Head:  17 3/4 in (90%)

For reference his 4 month stats were:
Weight:  16 lbs, 6.5 oz (75%)
Length:  (almost) 26" long (75%)
Head:  17" head circumference (90%!)

We were surprised by the weight - thought for sure Bubs would top out closer to 20 lbs.  Not so surprised by the big head...staying strong in the high percentiles!  Here's a few (blurry) pics from the office.

Yes...every time I see that gigantor head I remember that I did actually give birth to him.  Wow.

Looks a little blotchy...getting beard raspberries from Dad!
So Dr. Selig didn't really believe us that Luke was crawling and pulling himself up on things.  She started telling us that we needed to think about lowering the crib  for when he gets to the point where he wants to stand up.  We were like "yeah, we did that quite awhile ago.  He's crawling and pulling himself up on everything".  She looked at us and said, "this is a 6 month appointment right?".  I know it's not THAT unusual for a 6 month old to be crawling (obviously because Callan and Luke started doing it within days of each other) but she said Luke was a first for her.  She still seemed skeptical until we flipped Luke over on the table and he got on all fours and wanted to take off.

He checked out great but I did ask her about a mark on his back that he's had since birth.  Looks like a birth mark sometimes but other times it looks more like a bruise.  She thinks it's a mastocytoma.  From what I read up on last night, it's an area of the skin that has too many inflammatory (mast) cells.  It can cause itching and changes colors when irritated (which is why I noticed it change from a light brown birth mark to a reddish bruise).  It mainly affects children and will most likely be gone by puberty.  If it becomes bothersome, antihistamines can be given.  Dr. Selig recommended we see a dermatologist, so we will be making an appointment for that.

He also has "winter cheek" which basically looks like rosy red cheeks.  We need to keep him greased up with Aquaphor before going outside and before he takes a nap.

Poor Bubs - Dad has always said that he has skin like his mama (if you don't know, I can break out in hives from pretty much anything and my skin flushes very easily - which is not helpful when trying to hide your emotions!!).  Anyway, sounds like this thing he will grow out of.  I'll just hope he doesn't get the rest of my sensitivity!

He's on track for eating - on 2 meals a day now and we can add in lunch as soon as we want.  That should make things interesting for Adelia!

His diaper rash is MUCH better.  It's almost all gone and we're so thankful that is behind us (for now).  Lotrimin did the trick.

Still teething but no actual teeth yet - one of these days!

He also got one more round of vaccines last night - cried super hard but was back to smiling within 60 seconds or so.  We need to go back next week to get the flu shot - you have to wait 20 mins in the office after it's given to make sure there is no reaction and Bubs was soooo tired and ready for bed we just didn't want to make him wait any longer.

He woke up at 10 pm with another night terror.  I really do think it has something to do with his vaccines.  If I remember correctly, he had one with his last round.  We tried to wake him but even with a diaper change and the lights on, he wouldn't open his eyes...just cried and cried.  Gave him a bottle and he settled down - went back to bed and slept until 6:45 this morning.  This is day 2 of sleeping all night - knock on wood - let's hope it keeps going.

Next check up is in February for his 9 month - let's see if he's walking by then!
