Our good friends Jason, Nicole and (not-so baby anymore) Olivia came over to visit on Saturday and spent the night with us! We used to live a few blocks from each other but they just made the big move to the 'burbs. They love it out there and I have to say it sounds pretty awesome. It's like city life, but not. Anyway...it's hard to find time to spend together so they offered to come in to the city and hang out at our place and spend the night. (Funny enough, we did this a couple of times even when we lived blocks from each other - pre babies!). The kiddos got to have some play time together while we got to catch up . Luke didn't know what to think of Olivia...he just stared and stared...he was in awe of this big girl! He wasn't so sure about her playing with his toys. Good thing we have enough to go around (about 12 times actually). They played pretty well together but it was funny to see how Luke took the backseat with Olivia. Usually with Callan, he's yelling and talking (screaming) and climbing all over him. With Olivia, he was quiet and reserved. Maybe he was just watching his manners around a young lady. Good boy!
They also got to eat dinner together. Olivia was having fun and Luke looks like he's in a food coma! I had to laugh because this is another picture of Nicole and I where we look like we could be sisters. And actually, Olivia and Luke sorta look similar in this picture too - I think it's the (lack-of) hair. :-)
After dinner it was bath time! Nicole and I were excited to get them in the tub together...what friends don't want to have a photo op of their babies naked in the tub to share with them when they're older? They both LOVE the tub!
After bath time it was bed time. We have been on such a good streak with Luke that we were really looking forward to getting the kids down so the adults could have a *little* bit of fun. Luke did okay...for a few hours. Just long enough for us to eat and play a quick PS3 game. Then he decided he had to wake up every few hours the entire night. We didn't want to let him cry for fear that he'd wake Olivia (I'm pretty sure the neighbors wake up when he cries) so I rushed in to him every time. Sometimes, he'd stop crying before I could get a bottle ready - but the damage was done because we were already up. Needless to say, it was a long night. Dad still isn't feeling well so he slept even worse than Luke and I. Luckily, Olivia didn't wake up (except for once and thankfully it wasn't because of Luke) and she slept like an angel. I'm crossing my fingers that Luke was just out of his element a bit and was thrown off his normal routine. Hopefully he'll get back to his good sleep habits again tonight. ( It's 8:39 and so far he's already been up once. Not looking good Bubs.)
This morning we had breakfast with the Morris' and then they were on their way and Luke was ready for a nap. He took a few good ones today...and they were long enough for me to do something I haven't done this early EVER. I put up Christmas decorations BEFORE Thanksgiving.
Something has gotten in to me recently...I am so excited about the holidays and have been thinking about getting the Christmas stuff out for a couple of weeks already. I think it's because of Luke...I have waited so long to be able to experience "baby's first Christmas" and I can't wait. I want him to have as much time as possible to soak in the holiday - so the Santa's and stockings and tree came out!
I have to say my heart skipped a little beat when I brought Luke down from his nap and he caught the first glimpse of the tree and lights. He was mesmerized...looked at the tree, then at me, then back at the tree. It was awesome.
Could there be anything better under the tree than this??
Our afternoon was spent putting the finishing touches on the Christmas tree and the rest of the house. We are officially in the holiday spirit.
I'm so looking forward to the next month and a half. Watching Luke take in lots of firsts (a picture with Santa is high on my list!) and spending time with our families.
'Tis the season (and this week especially) to be thankful. And I am so very thankful for all of the things in my life - but most of all, I'm thankful for my baby daddy and our little elf.
i LOVE that pic of him under the tree! definatly getting that one printed and in a frame! mikey will love it! :)
